Ant Identification and Control in New Jersey
|
An ant trail can tell us more than a single ant. Where the insects enter, where they travel and what they are feeding around help establish a useful starting point for inspection. Professional Termite & Pest Control works with New Jersey homes and businesses from our Jersey City office.
Different ants call for different approaches, and winged ants can also be mistaken for termite swarmers. A clear photograph can help with identification; you do not need to decide the species yourself before contacting us. |

Understanding what supports the activity
Carpenter ants excavate wood to create nesting space; they do not eat wood as termites do. Seeing one large ant does not by itself prove that a structure has been damaged. Moisture, possible nesting areas and the pattern of sightings need to be considered together. Food residue, leaks and accessible water can also draw ants into a building. Activity around a sink may suggest different conditions from repeated sightings near an exterior wall or damp timber. Addressing those conditions can matter alongside treatment. |

Why the approach matters
A product that kills visible workers does not necessarily address the colony. Some species can respond poorly to unsuitable treatments, so previous sprays or bait placements are useful context before more products are added. In shared buildings, reports from adjoining units or common areas may help establish whether activity extends beyond one space. That does not mean every ant problem needs building-wide treatment; the proposed work and access arrangements should follow the evidence. |
