Hiring a Pest Control Company: Questions to Ask

A clear proposal matters more than a polished website. Before hiring a pest-control company, ask who will inspect the property, what has been identified and what the proposed work is intended to achieve.

Check credentials directly​

Ask for current licensing information and verify it with the appropriate state authority. Ask about insurance and experience with the pest and property type involved. Trade-association membership can be useful context, but it is not a license and is not a complete list of qualified companies. Absence from an association directory does not, by itself, establish that a business is unqualified.

Get the scope in writing

The proposal should explain the areas included, preparation, expected visits, price and any exclusions. Ask what happens if activity continues and what additional work would cost. If a guarantee is offered, read its conditions and duration rather than relying on a verbal summary.

Discuss access and precautions

Mention pets, occupied rooms, food handling and other conditions that affect the work. For commercial or managed properties, agree who will coordinate access and follow through on maintenance recommendations. Ask which instructions apply before, during and after service.​

You should be able to ask questions without being rushed. Compare the proposed work and follow-up, not just the headline price.
