Ants Indoors: Entry Checks and Practical Prevention

When ants keep returning, start by following the activity. Note where the trail begins, which rooms are affected and whether you see ants near moisture, food or damaged wood. A photograph can help with identification.

Take away the easy access to food

Clean spills and crumbs, close food containers and check pet-feeding areas. Look for leaks under sinks and around appliances. These changes can help, but ants indoors do not always mean the room is dirty; the nest and entry route matter too.

Check gaps carefully

Look around doors, windows and service penetrations. Appropriate sealing can reduce entry, but avoid blocking ventilation or making changes around electrical equipment yourself. For a rental or shared building, ask the manager to coordinate repairs.

Do not rely on vinegar to eliminate a colony

Wiping a trail is not the same as reaching the source of recurring activity. Pouring household mixtures outdoors can also affect surfaces or plants. Avoid mixing cleaners or pesticides. Identification should guide the control method, especially where ants are associated with damp or damaged wood.
