Why Suspected Termite Activity Deserves Attention

Suspected termite activity is worth assessing before repairs, decoration or a property transaction cover the evidence. The aim is to identify what is happening, understand the inspection limits and agree on any treatment, repair or monitoring that is needed.

Keep evidence available for assessment

Photograph the area and record when you first noticed it. Gather previous inspection reports, treatment records and repair information if you have them. Avoid painting over or removing suspicious material before the inspection unless an immediate safety issue requires other action.

Our termite guide and warning-sign article explain the evidence that may prompt a closer look.

Separate the decisions

Ask whether the available evidence indicates current activity, previous damage or another cause. An inspection of accessible areas cannot establish the condition of all hidden framing. Suspected structural damage may require a qualified building professional in addition to pest assessment.

The termite damage article explains the distinction between controlling an insect problem and repairing a building.

Keep the plan and follow-up clear

Review the proposed treatment areas, preparation, limitations and follow-up before work begins. Keep records of repairs and changes to moisture or wood-to-soil conditions. Any warranty or ongoing agreement should be read for its actual scope and conditions.
